Probably the most surprised person at the Equinox Awards this year was the winner, Gary Pohl. But that's how Gary is, very humble and unassuming.
Equinox featured in Aurora Magazine
The Equinox Marathon is featured in the spring 2013 issue of UAF's Aurora magazine.
The article "Equinox Marathon: 50 Years Running" includes a timeline of the race's key events, numerous photos and a feature by Ned Rozell about completing the course in 2009 with his 3-year-old daughter.
The on-line version includes an article by LJ Evans about Matias Saari's obsession with the race as well as a five-page excerpt (titled "An Unlikely Duel: Missionary Man Meets Justice") from his forthcoming book about the Equinox's history.

Want to Calculate Your Equinox Projected Time
Wondering how to predict your time in the Equinox Marathon? Bruce Sackinger provided this link to a marathon time calculator tuned to the Equinox. Matias Saari believes this is reasonably close for those running times in the 4-hour range or higher.

Skiing (Sort of) the Equinox Trail
By Matias Saari
Ever wonder what it would be like to ski the entire Equinox trail? Creating a 42-kilometer ski trail that linked campus to Ester Dome was part of the motive for the University of Alaska Fairbanks ski team when they founded the Equinox Marathon in 1963.
Equinox Marathon Inducted into the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame
Virtually everyone in Fairbanks knows how integral the Equinox Marathon is to the community there.
Now the Equinox has received statewide recognition after being inducted into the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame on Feb. 26 at the Anchorage Museum.
The Equinox, which celebrated its 50th running in 2012, was the lone 2013 event inducted at the well-attended ceremony.
Nutrition Information from Jane LeBlond
If you are wondering what is the best nutritional strategy to follow prior to, during and after the Equinox Marathon, you're in luck.
Kesler Woodward Commemorative Print
As mentioned earlier on this website, one of the ways we are commemorating the 50th running of the Equinox Marathon is with a print by Fairbanks artist Kesler Woodward.
Complimentary Entry for Past Champions
In the summer of 2011, the Equinox Marathon Advisory Committee adopted a policy whereby past winners of the Equinox Marathon (not ultramarathon or relay) would be granted free entry for as long as they wanted to participate in the Equinox events.

Registration for Life Members
Life members can register online for the marathon, relay or ultramarathon, as long as online registration is open (through 5pm on the Wednesday prior to the race). Go to the online registration page and check the box for life member, then complete the registration form. You will be asked to provide your date of birth in order to confirm your status. Be sure to hit the "Submit" or "Enter" button to make sure your entry goes through.
If you are entering the ultramarathon, you will be asked to pay an additional fee equal to the difference between the standard marathon entry fee and the standard ultramarathon entry fee. There is no charge to enter the marathon or relay. We request that life members enter online early, and come to early bib pickup on Thursday and Friday to get their bibs before race day, thus avoiding race morning confusion AND letting the marathon volunteers focus on ensuring a quality race production on race day.
