Equinox featured in Aurora Magazine

E-mail Print PDF

The Equinox Marathon is featured in the spring 2013 issue of UAF's Aurora magazine.

The article "Equinox Marathon: 50 Years Running" includes a timeline of the race's key events, numerous photos and a feature by Ned Rozell about completing the course in 2009 with his 3-year-old daughter.

The on-line version includes an article by LJ Evans about Matias Saari's obsession with the race as well as a five-page excerpt (titled "An Unlikely Duel: Missionary Man Meets Justice") from his forthcoming book about the Equinox's history.

Fee Schedule 2013

The Equinox Marathon, Ultramarathon and Relay make for a complicated event.  Having the highest possible percentage of entrants enter early makes it easier to conduct a great event on race day.  Our fee structure gives entrants an incentive to enter early.

Skiing (Sort of) the Equinox Trail

E-mail Print PDF

By Matias Saari

Ever wonder what it would be like to ski the entire Equinox trail? Creating a 42-kilometer ski trail that linked campus to Ester Dome was part of the motive for the University of Alaska Fairbanks ski team when they founded the Equinox Marathon in 1963.

To Those Who Picked Up Their Bibs Thursday Night - THANK YOU!

E-mail Print PDF

The co-Directors of the Equinox Marathon would like to extend a big thank-you to all those entrants who stopped in at the Pump House Thursday night and picked up their bibs.  By coming early you avoided an expected bigger crowd on Friday, and/or the race morning rush.  And you helped keep the size of Friday night's crowd down a bit.

We very much appreciate that you helped us to make things run as smoothly as possible.

Start and Finish Status Update

E-mail Print PDF

I inspected the start finish area tonight.  Here's a report.  The ski hill is in great shape.  The surface is very solid - not a sand dune.  There's good traction. UAF Facilities Services has mowed just below the gate and above the gate, and the path has been cleared above the gate out to the field below the greenhouse.  If it stays dry it will be clear sailing.  The gate is about 10' wide, so a lot more people should be able to get up the hill without too much accordion effect, compared to the zig-zag of past years.

A grader was working on the field, smoothing out the path between the NW corner of the field and the finish.  It was a work in progress, but it looks like it will be very smooth and level.  I'll check again in the morning.

If the rain holds off . . . it will be a fine start and finish area.

And the polyp has been excised.

Equinox Awards Banquet Relocated to Carlson Center

E-mail Print PDF

Due to the very large field in this year's events, the awards banquet will now be located at the Carlson Center, NOT the UAF Wood Center Ballroom.

Doors Open @ 6:30 pm (NO SOONER)
Pizza, salad, dessert, beer, soda and water will be provided.
2012 Award winners and past champions (and their guests) will receive priority seating.

Attendance at this venue is limited to 400 people, so please don't be late.  BE SURE TO BRING YOUR "RED TICKET' that will be provided to you at the bib pickup Thursday or Friday night.

Thanks to all of you who registered for making this necessary!  Be sure to attend and socialize with your fellow runners and friends.

Thanks!
