New Equinox Marathon Director for 2017!

Running Club North is pleased to announce that Stacy Fisk will be taking over as Race Director for the 2017 Equinox Marathon. Stacy brings a wealth of experience both as a runner and race event organizer to lead the Equinox deep into its second half century.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner recently covered the event, in a story “Stacy Fisk named Equinox Marathon race director” on 1/28/2017 by Danny Martin (reprinted here with permission):

FAIRBANKS — Stacy Fisk was announced Friday as the race director for the Equinox Marathon, according to a news release from the marathon and Running Club North.

The Equinox Marathon, considered one of the toughest 26.2-mile races in the nation, starts at 8 a.m. Sept. 16 from the University of Aalska Fairbanks Patty Center.

“The Equinox Marathon is an outstanding race that is highly respected in the race industry. It is truly one of the premier races in the state of Alaska,’’ Fisk said in the release.

Fisk added, “I’m excited to continue on the enormous legacy that John Estle and former race director Susan Kramer left me to build on the tradition and success fostered by the organization, sponsors and volunteers for the past 55 years.”

Fisk, the running department manager at Goldstream Sports, helped organize the inaugural Goldstream to HooDoo Half Marathon last October and the 13.1-mile race drew more than 550 participants.

The former runner and assistant coach for Mars Hill College in North Carolina organizes weekly group runs in the Fairbanks area and competes in long distance and ultra races.

Last year, she competed in the Indiana Trail 100 and was the first woman to compete solo in the Klondike Trail of ’98 Relay that runs from Skagway to Whitehorse, Yukon.

Fisk was turned back at the 96th mile of 109.5-mile event, but according to the release, she plans another solo attempt in the relay.

Fisk also served as an assistant cross-country and track-and-field coach for Catawba College, also in North Carolina, and as an assistant cross-country coach for the Alaska Nanooks of the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

We look forward to the new energy that Stacy will bring to the rich history of the Equinox Marathon!
